STEF, the European leader in transport and logistics dedicated to temperature-controlled food products, confirmed an order for 10 Vector eCool systems during Solutrans, the recently held biennial trade show for road and urban transport professionals in Lyon, France.
STEF and Carrier Transicold are pursuing a strong common objective to decarbonize transport for sustainable electric mobility. This order for Vector eCool refrigeration units is an integral part of STEF's "Moving Green" energy transition plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its vehicles by 30% by 2030.
After a successful field trial over the last year, STEF has validated the technology and is furthering its commitment by putting the Vector eCool into circulation in France for all of its use cases for two years. The aim is to validate the compatibility and sustainability of traction, collection and distribution.
“This order is the result of a co-construction process with Carrier. It represents a new concrete action for the STEF Group, illustrating its dynamism in the energy transition. Key benefits include an innovative, all-electric solution that is both sustainable and silent," said Jean-Marc Platero, STEF Group Technical Resources Director.
Launched in 2020, the Vector eCool combines Carrier Transicold’s all-electric E-Drive technology with a state-of-the-art energy recovery and storage system that converts kinetic energy generated by the semitrailer into electricity via a generator axle. The electricity generated in this way is stored in a battery pack, which in turn supplies energy to the refrigeration unit. This closed-loop system creates a fully autonomous system that generates no direct carbon dioxide or particulate emissions. The Vector eCool also meets PIEK certification, which specifies a maximum noise level of 60 dB(A) at a distance of 7.5 meters, a beneficial feature during deliveries in city centers.
"We are very conscious of our environmental commitments and are strongly committed to innovating alongside the STEF Group in this process of energy transition, and very grateful for their confidence, once again renewed," said Jean-Pascal Villefort, Managing Director of Carrier Transicold France and Southern Europe.
